Resumen

The dataset contains 140 records of the amount of water and organic matter contained in the tank of plants of the facultative epiphyte (Aechmea distichantha) located in clearings and understory of Schinopsis balansae forests (quebrachales) from six sites in the Humid Chaco of Argentina for different years and seasons.

Métodos

We carried out 13 trips to the Humid Chaco in Argentina (9 in Santa Fe, 2 in Chaco, and 2 in Formosa provinces). At each trip, we collected between 5 and 10 medium-sized to large-sized terrestrial plants of A. distichantha in different habitats (shade vs. sun) of the quebrachal (N=140). We removed each selected plant and measured the water retained inside the tank with a graduated cylinder. At the biological station, we placed the plants in a bucket and added a known volume of water (ml) to fill the tank up to its maximum capacity. We estimated the maximum water content of the tank as the volume of water added minus the amount of water drained into the bucket.
